We’ve timed our remodel to align with the spring and summer months so everything would be completed by the 4th of July. It’s our turn to host the gang this year, and we can’t wait to show off our new upgrades. The only problem is the kitchen addition is not finished. After years of talking about it, and months of discussions with contractors, designers and decorators, we still haven’t decided on some finishes and color schemes. But these are minor compared to all the work that has been accomplished thus far. We tore down a wall and enlarged the entire footprint of the kitchen by ten feet. This allowed for a screened in addition that lets in more light and provides seating in an outdoor like setting. Now I can enjoy my morning cup of coffee without being eaten by the giant bugs that find me so tasty, or take a sip of coffee without dead leaves dropping into my cup.
What I love most is the huge island that is now the focal point of the kitchen. We built in cabinets, a sink and lots of space for meal prep, and it’s a great gathering place for the family. I want to finish off the space with shiplap and give the place a rustic feel, my partner wants marble and glass with a high end, modern look. We’ve got to make a decision soon. One thing we do agree on is buying our décor from Saks OFF 5th. We came across the site while searching for local breweries and restaurants when we first moved into the house.
